FDLRS East is offering professional learning opportunities for educators interested in learning more about the Strategic Instruction Model (SIM™), an evidence-based collection of learning strategies, content enhancement teaching routines, and explicit instruction programs. 

 

 

 

Differentiated Instruction

FLIP IT® is a strategy that offers a simple, kind, strength-based, commonsense and effective four step process to address children’s day to day challenging behavior. The four steps are embodied in the FLIP mnemonic which stands for F – Feelings, L – Limits, I – Inquiries and P – Prompts. FLIP IT transforms best practice into a strategy that is easy to remember, applicable in a variety of challenging situations and portable.

Twice Exceptional Gifted with Disabilities

The purpose for the Twice Exceptional Gifted with Disabilities (2e) professional learning is to foster an awareness of students who are gifted with disabilities. In developing an awareness of 2e, participants will understand that students who are twice exceptional pose unique challenges and barriers to identification. These students also require teaching strategies and planning considerations that take into account both their giftedness and area of need. In helping these exceptional students develop their abilities, we open the doors to opportunity and positive impact in our global society.

Autism Endorsement Courses 2025 - 2026

This course provides participants with an understanding of how applied behavior analysis principles pertain to individuals with ASD, including implementation associated with teaching various skills and supporting behavior in educational settings. The functional assessment of problem behavior as well as proactive and preventative methods for addressing problem behavior will be addressed. In addition, evidence-based instructional strategies to develop communication, social, self-help, and academic skills will be emphasized and linked to behavioral needs.

FDLRS – ASD Nature and Needs, Assessment, and Diagnosis

Participants will be able to identify characteristics associated with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), demonstrate an understanding of current trends and research-based methodologies used to create appropriate instructional programs for these students, and become familiar with formal and informal assessments used for diagnosis and instructional planning.
